Description
Conor McGinn (founder of Akara Robotics and professor at Trinity College, Dublin) discusses the new robot prototype named Violet, which uses UV-C light to disinfect hospital rooms. It's currently being tested in a hospital in Dublin, but it could also potentially be used outside healthcare settings, such as public transportation.

He says, "While we were developing the Stevie Robot which we have targeted for retirement community settings in particular, it became apparent to us that germs and infections were a big problem, which can quite often lead to hospitalization or worse. So we started to look quite seriously into how you could bring better technology into this area. We came across UV-C lighting. So when the Covid outbreak sprung upon us, we started to focus on the development of a disinfectant robot which we call Violet".
