Ontario Launching New Coronavirus Contact Tracing App
Publication/Creation Date
June 18 2020Description
Cynthia Mulligan from Toronto CityNews reports on a new Covid-19 Bluetooth-based contact tracing app called COVID Alert that will be released in Ontario starting on July 2nd. Ontario is the first province in Canada to test out an app-based strategy. The app is a voluntary download and aims to protect user privacy.
Alberta launched a similar voluntary contact tracing app, TraceTogether, in early May, but only 11% of the population downloaded it, which reduced its effectiveness. Source
