A self-orienting millimeter-scale applicator (SOMA) for oral delivery of insulin and other biologics
Publication/Creation Date
February 7 2019Description
With the design modelled after the shape of a leopard tortoise (which are able to "self-right from any orientation"), researchers at MIT have developed a smart pill called a self-orienting millimeter-scale applicator (SOMA) for people with diabetes. This ingestible device delivers insulin by injecting the stomach wall with a needle once the sugar disk has been dissolved. Source
