Animal Identification Microchip, c. 2016
Artifact no. 2016.0164
Canada Science and Technology Museum
Publication/Creation Date
2016Description
While human implantables are still relatively new, implantable microchips have been in widespread use in animals since the 1990s. Like traditional collar-worn tags, chips like this one contain information that can help identify a lost pet. Unlike traditional tags, they are less likely to go missing and are robust enough to outlive the life of a pet.
