The scope of human augmentation technologies needs to be defined through the complex contexts within which they emerge. The core of this collection is our identification of a changing set of value systems that constitute augmentation technologies as social phenomena, namely, beliefs surrounding enhancement, automation, and efficiency. We specifically articulate and examine cognitive
, and physical
enhancements as a range of subcategories for identifying the underlying values of and contextualizing the future of augmentation technologies.
