This article explores the life and successes of Kavita Krishnaswamy, a PhD students of robotics who lives with Spinal Muscular Atophy, a rare genetic disability that causes paralysis. Kavita has designed and developed 10 different inventions to address issues of accessibility and independence. Her latest is the Beam, a telepresence robotic device that allows her to remotely attend events and communicate with others.
